Last weekend I raced Ironman UK 70.3 in Exmoor. This is a race which describes itself as the ‘world’s toughest half ironman’, constituting a 1.9km swim in Wimbleball lake, a 56 mile bike incorporating 52 hills and a mainly off-road, hilly, twisty half marathon. I’d labelled it as my early season ‘A’ race, felt my preparation in the preceding weeks had been good and was really looking forward to pitching myself against the strong field of ‘proper pros’ on the start list.

As a lot of you may have seen, I recently appeared on the ITV1 show Britain’s Got Talent – and I have to say it was a fantastic experience. The show’s production staff live on practically no sleep at all, yet they are still more cheery every single day than I seem to be after having an early night!

LOU COLLINS: SUCCESSFUL FIRST PRO RACE |

Following what seemed like endless weekends of rain and wind I made the snap decision that I would enter half Challenge Barcelona on May bank holiday weekend. I hadn’t planned to race this early in the year as I have been building up quite slowly in prep for Challenge Henley and Alp d’huez long course tri, which are to be my main races later in the year. But the lure of tapas, sun and sangria and also a weekend away from work was enough to make me change my mind and enter the half distance.

LUCY GOSSAGE: 2ND IN TRI GRAND PRIX UK |

This Sunday, I finished my first middle distance race of 2011 – and my first race as a pro! I entered Tri Grand Prix UK as an early season test, to see how my speed, endurance and race brain was faring prior to the bigger races later on. The race was based out of Emberton Country Park, just outside Milton Keynes, and constituted a 2km swim, 90 km bike and 21km run.
