It’s hard to believe it’s only January when you’ve just got back from a 3hr ride in the sun, having started your day with a sea swim followed by coffee in the sun. But this is what happens when you’re lucky enough to spend 12 days in Lanzarote in the depths of winter. Woolly gloves and overshoes seem a long time ago and my new pair of BLOC sunnies are a welcome alternative!

Time is a funny thing, isn’t it? No matter how much you have, it always seems to get filled. I’m now fully accustomed to my part-time lifestyle and looking back I have no idea how I managed to fit everything in before! My extra two days a week certainly seem to be fairly full, and not just with training. In fact, I’m not entirely sure where all that time goes, but in a nutshell life is good and touch wood, both work and training seem to be responding well to the change.

LUCY GOSSAGE: 3RD AT CHALLENGE BARCELONA

As a doctor/scientist I’m used to experiments going wrong. In fact it’s pretty much par for the course, certainly in terms of my research! So having entered Challenge Barcelona on a whim a couple of months ago, I was prepared to accept that things may not quite work out according to plan and it could be a long hard day at the office. I knew I was in good shape going into the race but had no idea whether the gamble I’d taken in terms of far fewer long runs, rides and bricks would pay off.
